Georgia State Senate Candidate Melody Bray Raises Over $110,000 From More Than 300 Donors by First Filing Deadline
ATLANTA, Feb. 2, 2022— First-time Georgia State Senate candidate Melody Bray files her first fundraising disclosure of the year with over $110,000 raised making for an impressive entrance into the race for District 38. Approximately 75% of the 300 donors were from individual donors at under $250 pointing towards grassroots momentum for a new leader to serve District 38 and the state of Georgia.
“Together, we had a vision to build a campaign that was rooted in service, where we could show up together across the district to listen, learn, and take action. And Melody’s strong grassroots support shows that we’ve done just that,” said campaign advisor Allie Brown.
In the first filing deadline of the year, Melody has raised nearly $20,000, all while in the midst of unexpectedly moving her residence just a few miles away due to a surprise redistricting move led by her opponent that drew her home out of District 38 where it’s been for 13 years.
“The reason I decided to run for Georgia’s Senate District 38 is because we deserve a leader who’s ready to enact real change for the people they represent. Instead of showing up for the real issues of our community for years, my opponent showed up for the one vote that would benefit her and not her constituents,” said Melody Bray. “But I’m not going anywhere. I’m not only willing to move my life but I’ll work to move mountains for the people of District 38 and the state of Georgia.”
As a longtime local activist, Bray co-founded The Georgia 55 Project during the 2020 election mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to fight against voter suppression. It was during this time she experienced firsthand the positive change that happens when people work together towards a common goal. Bray is now mobilizing to bring that positive change to the people of District 38 and Georgia.
“My goal is for our district to show what can be achieved when our representatives listen to the community and take action on critical issues that impact our daily lives from voter suppression to affordable housing to criminal justice reform,” said Bray. “It’s time we had proper representation and I will stop at nothing to work for us.”
